I went for a bit of a blat on the Triumph with swag, up to Karara for the weekend to attend a great get together . Most camped at the showground behind the pub. Met up with Logan,Mt Lindsey and other branch members plus a few heads I haven't seen for years. A few of us sat around both nights and chewed the fat, plus solved the worlds problems at the campsite and pub which served some great tucker. On Sunday Willis from Logan and myself decided we would take our run home via Leyburn , Toowoomba and down through slipyard creek than to Gatton to Laidley and Rosewood for lunch at Allen and Jo,s then home. Nice little run. Toddy

Somerset Memorial Gardens Clean up Day

Posted by Amanda on July 27, 2018 at 1:35 AM Comments comments (0)

Adrian will touch on this at the Information Night on Friday 3rd July but thought I would do a blog just to give you time to hopefully schedule your busy schedules .....

"The Working Bee at the Memorial Gardens at Somerset Dam will take place on Saturday 4th of August. Start time about 0830am.

Ray is hoping to get some people out there with wheelbarrows, trailers and rakes to help move and spread mulch.

If he gets time, he will be purchasing some plants which will also need planting!

Hopefully some of us can make it to give Ray a hand and to help keep the Memorial Gardens as lovely as they are."

It would be great to have a few of us go along for a few hours.  Amanda

SPEEDWAY may be coming to Ipswich

Posted by Amanda on July 22, 2018 at 10:35 AM Comments comments (0)

Adrian and I absolutely love Speedway - and it looks like it may come to Willowbank or SA later on this year.  We will deifnitely be going along to Willowbank and invite those who would like to come along to join us to go to Adelaide.   Anyhow I've my fingers and toes crossed.  This is what was in the QT this week.

Ipswich, already a major motorsport destination, is one of two locations in the running to secure an international motorcycle event.

If successful, the region will host the Australian FIM Speedway Grand Prix bringing the world’s top speedway stars down under next year.

As part of a three-day festival that would include a sidecar racing championship, the Grand Prix would attract more than 20,000 speedway fans as well as major international broadcasters and about 100 journalists.

Ipswich Motorsport Park is competing with Adelaide Showgrounds to host the Federation Internationale de Motocyclisme (FIM) event from 2019 onwards.

Discussions have been held with Ipswich City Council, Ipswich Junior Switches Speedway Club, Willowbank Raceway and the event organisers.

Switches club president Dwayne Rew said attracting the Grand Prix to Ipswich would be a big deal for the region and for all speedway fans in Australia.

“If we can make this happen in Ipswich it will be fantastic for this region and for Queensland,” Mr Rew said.

He said the sport was growing in popularity and Ipswich riders were proving their skills on the national and international scene.

Acting Ipswich Mayor Wayne Wendt said the event would provide a needed injection to the local economy.

“Bringing an international speedway event to Queensland would be a massive boost for the community and businesses here in terms of international and domestic visitors, media needing a place to stay, eat and experience some of the great things Ipswich has to offer,” he said.

“This event would provide a needed boost to the local economy and would attract other speedway events to Ipswich.”

Ipswich tourism spokesman Cr David Pahlke is delighted at the prospect of another major event coming to the region.

“This would be a welcome addition to our motorsport precinct where the Willowbank Raceway hosted the Winternationals in June, and where the Ipswich SuperSprint is about to be raced on July 20 to 22 at Queensland Raceway,” Cr Pahlke said.

Staged at Etihad Stadium in Melbourne for three years, the Australian FIM Speedway Grand Prix generated $9.8m annually for the local economy with 64 per cent of ticket purchasers from interstate.

The FIM Grand Prix series is raced in several countries including Denmark, Sweden and Germany.

This year’s series concludes with the Torun FIM Speedway Grand Prix of Poland on October 7.

Jo, Allen and I spent the weekend having a top time at Stanthorpe attending the Historical motorcycle and sidecar racing at Carnell Park raceway. Met up with some top likeminded people. Stayed at the Country Club Hotel Motel as usual and enjoying excellent food .Watched some great trackwork , and this year we were privileged to see six rigid frame Indian Scouts from Victoria racing. Rizzo???s / Ray"s Ride to Cabbage Tree Point

Posted by Ray (BENO) on July 21, 2018 at 2:20 AM Comments comments (0)

Hi all I am just writing this blog to thank everybody who came on Rizzo’s / Ray’s ride last Sunday. Well I left home at 7:30 under beautiful clear skies heading from Durack to Yamanto when I got there I asked Spook how cold it was we worked out it was 0 degrees and my fingers were freezing. So for such a cold morning we got a good response off riders and pillions I do not know exactly how many bikes but there were 24 people all up. We left Yamanto at 9:00 AM still cold, Ado & Amanda were tail end Charlie we headed down Centenary highway to Springfield and the back way to Greenbank then on to Park Ridge we went through lots of roundabouts to get to our next destination of Logan Village from there we headed up to Quincy Creek for some twisties and on to Yatala pies for morning tea.

After stopping there for three quarters of an hour we headed to our destination for the day of Cabbage Tree Point were the barbecue was set up, I would like to say a big thank you to Silver Fox for cooking on the barbie and to everybody else who helped preparing the food on the day also I would like to thank Ado & Amanda for buying the food and also for towing the BBQ trailer for the day also thank you Ado for being tail end Charlie for the day. Thank you to all that came along and made the day the great success that it was.

All the best to everyone cheers Ray (beno)

Red Light Camera

Hi All. Just be aware there is a red light camera at the 2nd set of lights when you leave the Yamanto Shopping Centre heading towards Purga/ Brisbane. If you look to the left when you are in line with Super Cheap, just after Maccas, it is on the left footpath. Cheers. Ado
